The Affordaplane Experience
The Affordaplane was introduced in 2001 as a simple to build, affordable ultralight. Featuring three axes, full span ailerons, and classic lines, the Affordaplane has gathered a lot of attention since its release. Read on to find out more about the Affordaplane:

The Affordaplane is unique among ultralights, as its fuselage is constructed of aircraft grade square aluminum tubing. Gyrocopters have been using this structure for decades, logging thousands of hours of trouble free flying. This airframe has proven to be reliable and simple, and maintenance free.
Construction goes very quickly, which makes the process fun and rewarding Many people remark how much easier it is to build a full size airplane than a model!

The Affordaplane is powered by a Rotax 447, 40 hp motor. Other recommended motors are the 40 hp 2SI, (Cuyuna), and the Kawasaki 440.

Once your basic structure is complete, you can customize it to your own tastes. You can build yours as a 'sport model', or one with classic lines. It's up to you. Some people just leave the cowling off and go flying! Our airplane can accomodate pilots up to 6' 3' with plenty of headroom.

You will be ready for cover very soon. We use 1.8 ounce dacron covered with house paint. This method saves a lot of money over other processes, and you can see by the picture what a great result you get! It's actually one of the more fun processes, and goes very quickly. After your paint has dried, it's off to the airport!

At the airport! The wide landing gear handles the bumps very well. You will find that she is easy to maneuver on the ground, and handling is predictable, with no bad habits. Visibility is excellent through 360 degrees.

Flying Time! This is where the Affordaplane really shines. The tail comes up at about 15 mph, and liftoff is between 45 to 50 mph. Climb is between 800 to 1200 feet per minute, depending on pilot weight. You will find that the controls are perfectly balanced, and stalls are gentle and straighforward. Turns are easily co-ordinated with ample rudder surface. She handles crosswinds very well also!

Another Dawn Patrol about to Begin! Flying over the countryside in your own airplane is one of life's greatest joys. Once you have flown to your heart's content, landings are a breeze. She rolls out in less than 500 feet, and the wings are easily removed so you can trailer her home.
There aren't many things in life that give the satisfaction, and REAL accomplishment of building and flying your own airplane. Plus it's so easy to get great results, as this customer's A-Plane shows in this picture. This one has been flying since July 2003.
